Hi, welcome to Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue. We are a small independent voluntary organisation dedicated to helping dogs in need. Each year, in Herefordshire alone there are around 350 dogs who find their way into the stray pound. Some go back home, sadly many are never reclaimed by their owners. These are the dogs we take care of, we provide them with shelter, either in our kennels or in a foster home, they receive any veterinary treatment they may need and they stay with us until a new home is found for them.
We are also here to help should circumstances arise that means you are unable to keep your dog. If you are having difficulties please give us a call, we will do our very best to help you find a new home for your pet..

JAILBREAK 2008 - SUNDAY 27th JULY - HEREFORD RACECOURSE
Great fun day out for all the family. Over 80 teams of 4 are taken to an unknown destination and then have to make their way back to the racecourse by whatever means they can - without money or phones. It is hilarious to see the teams returning by all sorts of modes of transport, previous jail breaks have seen people returning by helicoptor, juggernaught, horse and cart etc.etc.
This year Jailbreak is raising funds for Alzheimers, County Air Ambulance and a local childrens hospice.
HWAR have a stall there, with a fantastic array of goodies for sale, tombola and raffle.
There is a fun fair, live bands and a display by the Paws 4 thought display team, featuring several HWAR poundies (as seen on Britains got Talent)
Entry free for all the family
ATTENTION - HEREFORDSHIRE STAFFIE LOVERS
We know you are out there and need your help. For all the lovers of this beautiful breed, there are many people in our county who are dumping these dogs week after week at an alarming rate, without a thought as to what is going to happen to them. Mindless morons are breeding them to make a fast buck and then selling them to first come first served irrespective of whether the home is suitable or not. We've all seen them the young chap trying to make himself look macho by putting a studded collar on a puppy, dragging it around the town for a couple of months until he can't be bothered anymore so the dog is kicked out on the street to fend for itself, fine in a couple of months when the whim takes them again just go out and get another one. In the meantime what happens to the unwanted one:
Just a Staffy
Today is just another day - to me they're all the same
I have the worst of genes you see, I bear the "Staffy" shame.
The shame is in our numbers, there's thousands with no home.
Thousands just like me you'll find, in kennels all alone.
My mum was "just a Staffy", my father was too
Mum, too, became unwanted, as the last puppy goes.
And then begins the process, of money-making deals
A life of "moving on" unfolds, who cares how the Staffy feels?
If you have the cash to hand, the Staffy pup is yours
But that pup is getting bigger now, just look at those big paws.
You brought me for your image, thought I'd make you look more tough
But you'll find my boisterous nature has already got too much.
If you had thought to train me, with kindness and with praise
You would have had a faithful friend to share your darkest days.
I would lay down my life for you, but you simply cannot see
You make sure you get your money back on what you paid for me.
And on it goes, until one day, I'm no longer worth a dime
The retail on an adult staff - not worth the waste of time.
So what happens to a Staffy now? Do you really want to know?
Do you care what will become of us, when we leave our final home?
Have you ever thought to wonder, "Where is that Staffy now?"
The "Staffy" has another name; he's become a "stray" somehow.
Me, I was put into a car and driven far away
The door held open, I jumped out, I thought to run and play.
It was with joy and happy heart I turned to look for you
You drove away with all my trust and a piece of my heart too.
I wandered round for many days before I was brought here.
Now I wait with heavy heart, trepidation and with fear.
Seven days is all I have you see, seven days for you to claim
The little dog that you threw out, for which you have no shame.
This is my last goodbye now my seven days are up
If only more thought had gone into the future of that pup
As the needle empties to my veins I lay down with one last sigh
I'm sorry I was born a Staffy, because it means that I must die.

'THE REASON'
I would have died that day if not for you
I would've given up on life if not for your kind eyes
I would've used my teeth in fear if not for your gentle hands.
I would have left this life believing that all humans don't care
Believing there is no such thing as fur that isn't matted,
Skin that isnt flea bitten
Good food and enough of it
Beds to sleep on
Someone to love me
To show me that I deserve love, because I exist
Your kind eyes, loving smile, gentle hands and big heart saved me
You saved me from the terror of the pound
Soothing away memories of my old life
You taught me what it means to be loved
I have seen you do the same for other dogs like me
I have heard you ask yourself in times of despair, why you do it
When there is no more money, no more room, no more homes
You open your heart a little bigger, stretch the money a little tighter
Make just a little more room - to save one more like me
I tell you with the gratitude and love that shines in my eyes
In the best way I know how
Reminding you why you go on trying
I am the reason
The dogs before me were the reason
As are the ones who come after
Our lives would have been wasted
Our love never given
We would die if not for you
These dogs give 150% all they ask for is a second chance
Sincere thanks to everyone who has taken one of our dogs into their homes - we wouldn't be here without you.
THANK YOU!!!!!
